What trustsite.eu is
trustsite.eu is a free service for consumers. It checks whether a website appears to publish the information that European Union law requires, such as who runs it, where it is based and what rights buyers have, and it shows the result to anyone who asks.
trustsite.eu does not certify websites and sells nothing to them: no label, no badge, no subscription. It has no commercial link with the websites it reports on.
What a result means
A result does not in any way assess the legality of the products or services offered. It only reflects whether the website appears to meet the legal requirements on the information a website must publish. A poor result is a reason to be cautious; a good result is not a guarantee.
A result has no legal value. It is not legal advice and not a decision on whether a website is lawful: only the competent authorities and courts can decide that. To be admissible in any proceedings, the shortcomings shown on trustsite.eu must be established by other, legally recognised means.
How results are produced
- Results come from an automated analysis of the website's public pages. Each finding is dated and linked to the EU law provision it refers to.
- “Not found” means that our analyser did not find the information on the pages it read. The information may exist elsewhere, for example only during checkout.
- A website may change after its analysis. Websites are analysed again regularly, and their past results stay visible.
- The compliance rate is a summary of the checked requirements, not a grade of the business. How it is calculated is explained on our methodology page.
The “Trust” shield
When a website meets every requirement we checked, its page may show our shield. It means only that, on the date shown, the information required by law was found on the website. It is not a certification, not a recommendation of the business, its products or its services, and not a guarantee of any kind. It is shown on trustsite.eu only; websites may not display it as a label.
Right of reply
If you run a website that has a report, you can ask for a new review at any time from the page of your website, for example once the missing information has been added, or if you think a finding is wrong. A person then looks at your request and the website is analysed again.
Using the website
- You may read, quote and share results, with a link to the page of the website concerned and its date.
- Do not submit websites in bad faith, for example to harm a competitor, and do not try to overload or disrupt the service. Submissions are limited and abuse is blocked.
- Do not present a trustsite.eu result as a certificate, an official decision or legal proof.
Liability
We take care to make results accurate and to correct errors quickly when they are reported. Results are nevertheless provided as information only, without any guarantee of completeness or accuracy. trustsite.eu cannot be held liable for decisions you make on the basis of a result, such as buying or not buying from a website.
